Our small family farm is nestled up next to the Mad River around the corner from the town of Ardenvoir in North Central Washington state, We are committed to bringing you Wholesome NON GMO organic seeds, hand harvested and processed so that you, the consumer can grow good clean food for yourself and your families. We do not utilize any chemical fertilizers or pesticides on any of our products.
We are also exploring sustainability with aquaponic growing methods. In "aquaponics" vegetables are grown in a inert medium (either expanded clay pebbles, or pea gravel) and linked to what are essentially "fish tanks" or ponds. the fish feed is composed Duckweed, which is a high protein plant (the smallest flowering plant in the world actually), and organic pellets with no land animal ingredients. In a aquaponic system, the fish produce waste, (very high in ammonia) this waste is digested by two different species of naturally occuring bacteria, that in turn, convert the ammonia into nitrogen.
The plants leech the nitrogen from the water as it is pumped into the grow beds, and the ammonia free clean water is returned to the fish holding tanks. In the end, we are able to produce clean good tasting fish, and healthy plants. Aquaponics uses about 10% of the water that traditional gardening uses, and just like in nature, there is no waste.
